Welcome to This Is Chinnor, THE site for Chinnor, a village in the foothills of the Chilterns.
We're a friendly village with lots of activities, sports and events. We created this website to help keep everyone up to date and to provide news and information about such activities and the community groups that organise and manage them. They let us know what's going on and we share this with everyone.
All local groups are welcome to promote their events with us, just get in touch and we'll put it on the site. Don't forget to send us a poster.
You can contact us via our form here. Read and join fellow Chinnorians in our FaceBook Page.
Chinnor is located at the foot of the Chiltern Hills and is surrounded by glorious countryside.
The main road through the village is the B4009, which effectively links Aylesbury to Watlington. Crossing this, just South of the village, is the M40, London to Oxford and Birmingham motorway. This means the early morning and evening traffic is quite extensive. Luckily, there are traffic calming measures in place, road humps and chicanes, which help and also recently a blanket 20mph limit is in place through the whole village.
There are of course lots of Public Footpaths through and beyond the village. Below is a captured image of the footpaths. Click the picture to take you to the Oxfordshire Countryside Access map, which you can zoom in and navigate around.

This Is Chinnor was created by Chas Large in September 2024. Earlier this year, Chas was asked if he knew when a specific event was happening, he suggested to the enquirer they try searching the web, sadly, they had no luck. Now, whilst many events and activities are listed on some sites, not one listed them all. So that's one of the objectives he wanted to resolve with this site.
Another objective is to help promote local organisations, clubs, businesses and groups, some of whom don't have their own web presence - perhaps just a FaceBook page.
Local news is also lacking except for the aforementioned FB, but not everyone uses or likes it, so if it can be related here in simple bulletin format it could give a more instant access and become a historical record for the future.
The site is run on a not-for-profit basis, is free to use and its cost has already been met. We welcome all input but it will be examined, verified and edited before publication.
