History

This section of the site is dedicated to the history of Chinnor. Old photos, maps and stories about Chinnor.

Maps

Maps are fascinating, especially older maps, showing roads and pathways now long gone and changes over the years. Sometimes they can give an insight into problems like flooding or similar issues. Here, we'll display some that we have found and that are publicly released.

Here's a map of Chinnor from the 1937, courtesy of OldMapsOnline

Another find, an old aerial view of Chinnor, complete with cement works and without many newer roads. Sorry, quality is not great.

The Changing Face of Chinnor

I came by these cuttings from the Oxford Mail some time ago and thought they may be of interest:

Chinnor Heritage

The history of Chinnor goes back to 120 million years ago, the age of the shark’s tooth fossil found in the quarry and exhibited at an exhibition in 1967.

Visit the Chinnor Heritage website for lots of interesting information.
