VE Day - Memories

As you are all aware this year, we celebrate the 80th anniversary VE Day, Victory in Europe on the May 8th and VJ Day, Victory in Japan on the 15th August.  To mark the occasion Chinnor Heritage would like to record residents’ memories of the day. It could be a story recounted to you or memories of an account by family and friends.  We would like to collate these memories into a folder for the website and all contributions would be acknowledged. Sharing these experiences will add to the rich fabric of Chinnor’s history. These will form part of our audio library project which we are undertaking this year. If you would like to take part please contact me.

Chinnor Open Gardens (COG)

Write a comment

Chinnor Open Gardens are a group of enthusiastic gardeners who share their garden spaces (of every type and size!) annually, to raise funds for a wide range of local charities and community groups. They hope that by sharing their passion for gardening they will inspire others to celebrate our precious green spaces, encourage community connection and provide support to local businesses.

Chinnor Rotary

Write a comment

Chinnor Rotary is a progressive, project-based, local community club, with multi-generational appeal, from the age of 18 till the young at heart.

We are welcoming people over the age 18 from across the community of Chinnor Parish which includes Chinnor, Chinnor Hill, Emmington, Henton and Wainhill who want to give something back and have fun at the same time. We also welcome community minded people from the neighbouring villages who would benefit from a close-by Rotary Club. We are committed to making a meaningful contribution to the local community by supporting carefully selected local community projects. We hope we will have many events and activities throughout the year and our members will build lasting personal friendships and useful business connections too.

Our club volunteer members are meeting monthly on a Saturday morning at the Chinnor Village Centre Cafe. Some of our members who have children are more than welcome to bring them along, so there is no need to worry about childcare.

Do you want to make new friends and give something back to Chinnor? Then what are you waiting for? Join the fun!

Grants totalling over half a million pounds are being awarded to help fund nearly 40 schemes to reduce flooding in Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire County Council received more than 80 applications for its priority action grants earlier this year from groups and organisations working to make their communities more resilient to flooding.

Following an assessment process, 39 schemes are being supported with grants of up to £25,000, subject to confirmation.

Councillor Judy Roberts Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Place, Environment and Climate Action, said: “The quality of submissions was extremely high, and we would have supported almost all the projects if we had enough money to do so.

“It is fantastic that these groups are so committed to improving the situation where they live. When it comes to knowing what is needed to tackle flooding in a particular area, local communities are often the experts.

“This grant scheme is now in its second year and is a part of our drive to help residents take effective action to tackle flooding and extreme weather, which is being exacerbated by climate change.”

Projects to be funded include ditch construction in Chinnor.
