BBC Radio Oxford is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of Oxfordshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios in the Summertown area of Oxford. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 87,000 listeners and a 3.5% share as of December 2023.
Red Kite Radio was founded in 2017 as the community radio station for Thame, Haddenham and the surrounding villages. Based in the grounds of Haddenham Garden Centre, Red Kite Radio is a not-for-profit organisation. The station’s remit is to serve the community with classic hits from the Sixties through to today; and to provide news and information. The station is funded by advertising, sponsorship and grants from supporting organisations.
The fulltime station, broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, was officially launched on a baking hot Sunday at Haddenham Garden Centre, on 18th June 2017 with a cake and champagne reception for invited guests and the station went on air at 11am that day with the first voice heard being Mark Chapple presenting the first song, Beautiful Day by U2.
Today the team at Red Kite Radio is a family of all ages, from all backgrounds, with a vast repertoire of music knowledge and preferences. We’re always keen to build the team so anyone can come in and give it a go after completing our training. We train the presenters in the studio to operate the desk and control the playlist system.
